Wedding Planning Tips

I often shout about the benefits that hiring a wedding planner can give you. A planner can save you valuable time, alleviate the stress of wedding planning, offer you a wealth of insider knowledge on suppliers, trends and design. They’ll also help you negotiate contracts, track payments and get the most from your budget. Above all else, they’ll be there to manage your wedding day itself and ensure that everything runs seamlessly.

However, I also understand that a wedding planner isn’t for everyone. For some couples, the idea of planning their own wedding entirely is something they’ve always dreamed of. So if you’re on the fence about enlisting the support of a professional, this blog post is for you!

There are several scenarios where I would always recommend having a professional on board. To help you decide if hiring a planner is right for you, here are 7 reasons why you might need a wedding planner.

You’ve changed your original wedding plans

We’ll start by addressing the Covid-shaped elephant in the room! Countless couples have, unfortunately, had their original wedding plans completely changed due to the pandemic. Whether that’s reducing guest numbers, postponing your wedding to a later date or splitting your wedding to have a small ceremony now / party next year. If you fall into this bracket, chances are your wedding admin just went through the roof! Save yourself a whole lot of time and stress by hiring a wedding planner to manage your rearranged plans.

You’re busy people

The average wedding takes between 250 and 500 hours to plan. Yes, really! Factor that in alongside a full time job, a social life and all of the other life-admin that needs to happen and you’ve suddenly become VERY busy. Enlisting the support of a wedding planner will streamline the planning process and save you valuable time, freeing you up to do the fun stuff! Cake tasting, anyone?

You’re getting married at a family home

Getting married at a family home is a wonderful, sentimental choice and something that many of my couples go for. However, it’s worth considering that, with this option, you don’t get any of the staff members that a venue would offer. For this reason it’s SO important that you have a wedding planner on board to co-ordinate your plans and your team of suppliers. This will ensure that you, your family and your friends can fully relax and enjoy the celebrations!

Your plans are logistically demanding

Couples are often surprised by the sheer volume of work that goes into a wedding! If you’re finding the burden of managing the logistics a bit too much, it’s always best to reach out to a wedding planner. This is an especially good idea if you’ve got a lot of suppliers to manage, or if your venue has a lot of constraints to consider. For example, if you aren’t allowed into your venue until 2pm on the day of your wedding, who is going to oversee the setup of your day? A planner will be able manage this seamlessly on your behalf.

You’re planning your wedding from overseas

Planning a wedding is a lot of work, but planning a wedding in a different country opens up even more challenges. Whether it’s time zones, currency conversions or simply knowing the best suppliers for your day. I’d always recommend finding a wedding planner who is based where you have chosen to get married. Many of my couples live overseas and are getting married in the UK. In this instance, I can be a dedicated port of call for their suppliers, attend site visits on their behalf and help them plan their perfect day remotely.

You’re having a marquee wedding

It’s no secret that marquee weddings involve a LOT more work. After all, you are (quite literally!) building your perfect wedding venue and, generally, this involves a lot more suppliers and logistics. If you’re planning a marquee wedding, I’d recommend getting a wedding planner on board from the start. This way, you can ensure that you are booking a trusted, reputable team who will fully deliver your vision.
